| The Greater Phoenix Chapter No. 98 is a member chapter of The National Association
of Women in Construction, NAWIC, and organization
founded in 1953 by sixteen women working in the construction industry.
NAWIC, with a membership of 5,800 with over 185 chapters in almost
every U.S. state and in two Canadian provinces, established the following
objectives:
- To unite for the mutual benefit of the women who are actively engaged in
the various phases of the construction industry
- To promote cooperation, fellowship and a better understanding among members
of the Association
- To promote education and contribute to the betterment
of the construction industry
- To encourage women to pursue and establish
careers in the construction industry
- To provide members an awareness of the
legislative process and legislation as it relates to the construction industry
There is no distinction among the membership as it relates to the importance
of one woman's job over another; NAWIC is a democratic organization in
that every member is important. The organization is self-governing, non-profit,
non-sectarian, non-partisan, and has no affiliation with any religious, fraternal,
or labor group.
The NAWIC Founders Scholarship Foundation (NFSF) was created in 1961 to award
scholarships to students pursuing construction-related studies. The NAWIC Education
Foundation (NEF), founded in 1972, developed programs to enrich the minds of
children as well as adults.
To that end, the Greater Phoenix Chapter's premier product, the Construction
Dictionary©, donates proceeds from each sale to NEF.
On the local level, funds derived from the sale of the Construction
Dictionary© are
directed to educational scholarships for women who are enrolled in construction
and construction-related programs in Arizona thus giving way to the logo
